Just in a few days, on November 11th in Japan, at the Flat Panel Display Convention, Samsung will unveil their new 4.5-inch flexible AMOLED displays.
Samsung is releasing the news for the convention little by little. Samsung Mobile Display, the panel division from the South Korean corporation reports that these displays had 800x480-pixel WVGA resolution and offer the same color quality we had already seen in Samsung’s Galaxy S series phones. It is made with a special plastic material that allows screen flexibility, without image distortion, besides bringing higher resistance. It can be achieved up to a minimal radius of 1cm when folded.
Two issues are being seriously worked in these flexible screens as well as in other developments: refreshing times to end up possible ghosting effects and energy consumption.
It is clear that this kind of developments open many new ways in which displays can be implemented, leaving behind many concessions impossed to design by the technology.
